Models and Role Models

One of the Nordstrom ads using Down syndrome kids

I want to give a nod to Nordstrom today. I just learned that for the past several months the company has been running a fashion campaign that uses children with Down syndrome as models. By doing so, Nordstrom’s is being a role model for other companies that so easily forget to include the special needs community. Read this post from the Noah’s Dad blog to see some fantastic photos of beautiful, happy children who happen to have Down syndrome.

Let’s spend some time today to think about how all of us can do something to include special needs kids, or any group that gets looked over or left out, into the regular function of our society. Children with Down syndrome are loving, capable people that serve as role models to the rest of us who sometimes get so caught up in our routines that we forget to be loving and struggle to be capable.
